The Vendor Bard
Our roadmap is your destiny
The Vendor Bard is the charismatic singer of the new age. This character sells not only capabilities, but status. Their gift is converting uncertainty into applause. You hear them most clearly whenever a product is being sold as a historical threshold rather than a bounded tool.
Symptom
The conversation shifts from 'can this solve our problem?' to 'what are our competitors doing?' before anyone has described the problem. The pitch uses words like 'paradigm,' 'generational,' and 'inevitable' more often than it uses words like 'latency,' 'error rate,' and 'migration cost.'
Why It Matters
The Bard's real talent is making not buying feel like cowardice. Saying 'we should probably understand this better before committing' sounds prudent in a retrospective and feels like defeat in the room. The social pressure to adopt is not mechanical — it is emotional.
What the Chapter Gives You
How to reframe evaluation around your problem instead of the vendor's narrative, the temperature test that reveals honest answers, and why the Bard is noticeably less available after the contract is signed.
